Vivekananda Institute of Biotechnology (under Core support programme of DST – Govt. of India), a branch organization of Sri Ramkrishna Ashram, Nimpith has come up a long way since 1991 with support from DBT (Department of Biotechnology), DST (Department of Science & Technology) and CAPART (Govt. of India).

We are also working as

One

A SIRO (Scientific & Industrial Research Organization) recognized by DSIR, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India

Two

A PG Research Laboratory recognized by University of Burdwan.

Three

The Technology Resource Centre of Council for Advancement of People's Action and Rural Technology (CAPART) for the Coastal Saline zone of West Bengal.

Four

Assessing, designing and developing multi-skill biotechnology programmes

Five

Building village based human resource.

Six

Providing service and creating knowledge base in the village through these human resource.

What we do

We are technology leaders and have crafted intuitive and lasting online and mobile experiences for hundreds of associations and non-profits.

Latest Work

CAPART entrusted VIB as Technology Resource Centre (TRC) for Sundarbans area. Burdwan University of West Bengal has recognized VIB to be the Post Graduate Research Laboratory. This Institute has eight units viz. Biofertilizer, Vermicompost, Bio & Botanical Pesticide, Soil Science, Mushroom, Plant Tissue Culture, Aquaculture and Rural Green Energy and also three centres for Research and Demonstration (R&D) activities. VIB is also registered as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization of DSIR, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India.

Domestication of the red alga Catenella sp in the vicinity of mangrove forest of Sunderbans

This aglal species contain carrageenan- a organic compound used in cosmetic and food inductries. Catenella ecotype selected for culture in Domestication. The process of cultivation is standardized.

Isolation and characterization of Blue Green Algae from Vindhyan Alluvial Soil for its nitrogen fixation, carbon sequestration and methane oxidation activities.

The main objective of this work is identification of BGA strains that can be used in field for mitigation of global warming for their high carbon-di-oxide absorbtion and methane oxidation activity. 30 isolates collected from soil. 8 identified & studied for its growth on the basis of dry weight and chlorophyll content. Further works are in progress.

Studies on effect of C/N Ratio on nitrogenase activity of Azotobacter

The main objective of the work is mitigation of the effect of combined nitrogenase activity by increasing organic carbon content in soil. Primary analysis shows that increase in sucrose concentration in Jension’s media increases nitrogenase activity in same ammonia concentration .Further studies with soil as a media is being executed
